The reports that Ratcliffe has appointed a corporate restructuring firm, Interpath Advisory, to cut costs at Old Trafford. United's most recent financial results showed that their staff costs had risen to a staggering £95 million ($121.5m) in 2023-24 and Ratcliffe is said to believe that such a giant outlay is holding the club back.

As a result of the review, staff have been left fearing for their jobs and up to a quarter of those employees could be laid off. United have over 1,100 staff members; by comparison, the next highest number in the league comes at Liverpool, who have 900. Manchester City have 720.
