Newcastle United’s Kieran Trippier has raved about his teammate Joelinton and labelled the Brazilian as a ‘machine’.
The Latest: A constant feature for NUFC
Since his arrival last season, Eddie Howe has featured the 26-year-old constantly for the Magpies. Joelinton has played on 49 occasions for Newcastle under him, which is the joint-highest of any Toon player under Howe’s regime, alongside Jacob Murphy.
Joelinton made the switch to Tyneside from Germany with the idea that he would play as a striker, four years later and he now operates as a central midfielder.
This position change may have not happened had Ciaran Clark not been sent off last season against Norwich City, as the Brazilian would then drop into midfield for the remainder of the game and the rest is history.
In the 2022/23 Premier League campaign the midfielder has two goals to his name, as well as two assists in the league.
The Latest: Trippier in awe of Joelinton
Speaking to Goal’s YouTube channel, the Magpies full-back labelled Joelinton as the hardest trainer in the entire Newcastle squad.
He said (1:18), “The best trainer at Newcastle, it’s got to the Joelinton. He is a machine, he trains every day like it’s a game and gives you 110% every session. So he deserves huge credit for the way he trains.”

The Verdict: A sensational turnaround
We believe that Joelinton has blossomed into a fantastic midfielder, all credit to the player and Howe who noticed just what he can offer.
Former Newcastle boss and pundit Graeme Souness waxed lyrical about the player when writing for the Daily Mail, stating he is ‘doing things I never thought he would be capable of’, since switching to the middle of the park.
Joelinton offers physicality and tenacity when he puts on the black and white shirt and the stats prove that, he ranks in the top 6% and 7% for blocks and aerial dual won respectively.
We believe that there was a player in there all along and Howe was someone who noticed early on. He hinted early that the 26-year-old would a major part of his plans at Newcastle, back in November 2021 he claimed that Joelinton had a ‘big part’ to play in the club’s future.
In our opinion, the case of Joeltinton is an example of giving a player the right manager to work alongside. He’s certainly proved that he’s worthy of playing and being a constant starter in England’s top flight.
