Leeds could be playing in the Premier League next season and that has provided Danny Mills with some concerns, particularly regarding the skipper Liam Cooper.
What did he say?
There is a lot of optimism surrounding the club currently despite some fans potentially fearing that the Whites could miss out on promotion due to the football season being suspended.
Despite that, the Yorkshire outfit are in a perfect position to reach the Premier League, and that means some difficult decisions may have to be made in regard to transfer activity.
Marcelo Bielsa has brought the best out of his players for a second consecutive season but of the regular starters only Patrick Bamford and Pablo Hernandez have any real Premier League experience, and that could influence decision-making in terms of reinforcements.
Speaking about the club’s recruitment plans in the summer, Mills told Football Insider:
“Some players are better suited to the Championship and that is their level.
“Liam Cooper has been a magnificent servant and he is the captain of the club but – is he quite good enough for the Premier League?”
In the right hands
As mentioned, the Argentine boss has brought together a number of Championship standard players and made the team greater than the sum of its parts, and considering Leeds have been on top form for almost two years there is little need to worry.
Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United have thrived in the top tier because of his innovative tactics and ideas, rather than personnel, so there is every chance Bielsa could replicate that considering his experience of managing at the highest level.

With that in mind, though, Leeds need to ensure they retain much of this potential promotion-winning team.
Ben White and Gaetano Berardi could leave due to their respective contract situations, and that means the Whites may be short of centre-back options, making the importance of keeping a leader like Cooper even more important.
After all, he is already a major part of the best defence in the Championship as Leeds have only conceded 30 goals in 37 league games, helping his side to just seven defeats in 30 league games this term.

As a result, there is little need for Mills to be concerned until he gets a chance to view Cooper in the Premier League, and if he is not up to standard the club always has the opportunity to dip into the transfer market.
